Psalm 111
Psalm 111
“Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. Great are the works of the LORD studied by all who delight in them. Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever. He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful. He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever. He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the inheritance of the nations. The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy; they are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name! The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!”
In this season of Thanksgiving, there are many Psalms that are focused around praising and rejoicing the things that God has done in our lives. This Psalm doesn’t only highlight what we should be thankful for, but also helps us realize how we get to that mindset. There are many things to be amazed about God and his works, but I am constantly and consistently amazed by his plan. He knows what was, what is, and what is going to be. We can try and force our own decisions in life, but really our lives are what God desires and has already planned for us to be. This may sound like a trap and may sound restrictive, but I have found so much freedom in knowing that my hope and trust is found in our Heavenly Father’s remembrance of his covenant to his children. Believe it or not, we have an inheritance through our LORD and savior. This is the capstone of the Psalm at the end where it states that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. It is difficult to have the slightest understanding, but the more you give over to God, the more understanding you will have of his plan for your life. I am always super thankful for my family, my home, the food on the table, but let us remember the covenant that our Father made with us and be thankful for a God who not only loves us deeply, but also holds our livelihoods in the palm of his hand and says quietly to us, “I got you.”
I challenge you with trusting God with today. Start with just today and then go from there. Maybe just start with the next hour. Know that he loves you, that you are his forever loved and cherished child, and that you have inheritance in His name. Find peace in the power of the Holy Spirit that is already within you. Begin to wrap your holidays around this remembrance as he remembers you. His praise endures forever!
Peace be with you this week.
