Relationship Goals
1 To you, O LORD, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit.
2 Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help, when I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctuary.
3 Do not drag me off with the wicked, with the workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors while evil is in their hearts.
4 Give to them according to their work and according to the evil of their deeds; give to them according to the work of their hands; render them their due reward.
5 Because they do not regard the works of the LORD or the work of his hands, he will tear them down and build them up no more.
6 Blessed be the LORD! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
8 The LORD is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
9 Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever.
- Psalms 28
Sometimes when I read the words of King David, I get nervous for him. The way he talks to God is at times beautiful and then at times, it sounds angry.
I've always heard that God is big enough to handle me being mad at him, and I believe that. I just know how messed up I am and it makes me cringe a bit when people get so angry with God. That being said, there's something beautiful about it.
That sounds weird, but if somebody has a relationship that is close enough to God where they feel comfortable being angry with him for a moment, then I can't imagine how beautiful their typical time is with Him.
We talk about having a personal relationship with God. At the time when David wrote this, though, most people didn't have that. Their relationship with God was only via proxy. They had to go through a priest to be able to approach God. There was not yet a way for them to approach God in his holiness.
That all changed with Jesus. Jesus came and broke that system down when He died on the cross. He made a way to have a personal relationship with our creator again...the way it was intended.
So the question is, do you have that relationship? Have you put your faith in Jesus? Do you feel bold enough to bring your frustrations to God? More so, do you feel the joy of praising Him in the good and bad?
Praying for you today church!
