Transformed : Vocational Health - Day 7

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, As working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV)

You might file receipts for no other reason then to keep your job. You may fetch coffee out of duty, make small talk out of courtesy, or visit potential clients for the profit. On any given workday, you do more activities then youre aware of, for more reasons than you can count.

You do certain tasks on autopilot; others feel like chores. Then there are tasks you feel you were made to do… and maybe you were.

This verse changes everything by telling us that whatever the task, we should do it for more than just the reason at hand. We could jokingly say that we must work with a double motive: to get things done and to work for Christ. The latter is most important.

Every doll task changes when done for your creator. He is the one you love. He is the one who loves you. Its mutual love push you to work. It compels you to make every effort to turn your activities into gifts for him.

Yes, you can serve Christ by processing lifeless receipts, by handing out coffee, by listening to colleagues, by selling your clients what they need. But the secret sauce is your “ double motive.

We dont deserve a reward for all of this. After all, we act out of love for Christ, and he gives us this love to begin with. But in the verse, he baffles us. He rewards us for every small thing. He serves his servants. Now thats true love.

Next Steps. Write down your answers to these questions.

192. What did you hear?
193. What do you think?
194. What will you do?
195. Now talk to God...
