Still
1 The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed; he has put on strength as his belt. Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.
2 Your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting.
3 The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring.
4 Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty!
5 Your decrees are very trustworthy; holiness befits your house, O LORD, forevermore. - Psalms 93
It's been 2 and a half days since the Las Vegas massacre. The largest mass shooting in US History. The thing that is so crazy to me is how connected everyone was to the event. I have talked to multiple people that knew somebody who was at that concert. Some who were even shot. By the Grace of God, I haven't talked to anybody that knows someone who didn't make it. But my goodness this tragedy seems to be hitting super close to home.
It's normal at times like this to ask, "God how could this happen?" I think at some level if we don't wrestle with that, we are lacking in compassion.
The reality is, there is sin in this world. It's constantly happening. The plan of the devil is constantly at work. It just feels different at times like this because it affects so many people in the most devastating way.
Take heart. Jesus ain't surprised. He's not pacing back and forth in heaven trying to figure out how to fix this. No. As this Psalm says, He reigns. He's robed in majesty. He is everlasting. Jesus is still on His throne!
So as much as we feel pain and confusion during these tragedies, we have an everlasting Prince of Peace to turn to. He has overcome the grave. He has defeated sin. He is mightier than any storm, or flood, or wave, or natural disaster, or mass shooting, or depression, or sin. Jesus is KING!
Church, I know it's confusing. I know we all want answers. The reality is, we will probably never get those answers that will actually satisfy our questions. My question is, can you be a representation of the peace of Jesus to people who don't know that peace? You have peace that surpasses understanding, and I believe that God has called you to use that to enter into these tragedies to share that with others.
Love you guys.
Charlie
