The End Of You
21 When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart,
22 I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you.
23 Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
27 For behold, those who are far from you shall perish; you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.
28 But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.
- Psalm 73:21-28
There's this place that everybody ends up at some point. It's called the end of yourself. At the end of yourself, you have two ways you can go.
0. You can go the way of pride. The way of pride will lie to you and tell you that you can fix it. It will also tell you that once you just get a plan and put it into action, it'll all work out. It seems to work for a little while. It's like a pain killer that numbs the pain, telling you that you're healed, but the second it wears off, you're back at ground zero. This is a therapeutic lie.
0. You can go the way of God. At the end of every person is God. It sounds bad, but He wants you there. As opposed to choosing pride, it's at the end of yourself that you realize that you can't fix it. You need more. You aren't enough. You need a completely new life. And that's exactly what God gives you.
When I read verse 26, I am constantly reminded of my need for God to be my strength. Being in a place of weakness isn't a bad thing as long as it presses me more towards God. He wants me to rely on him more. He wants you to see that you are weak and need Him for your strength.
Where do you find yourself today? Are you at the end of yourself? If not, maybe you could rely on God before you even get there. Either way, I encourage you to pray for strength from God, not your pride. Give him your worst. He is waiting there and wants it so He can give you His best.
Love you guys.
