Beeline Theory
1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars.
2 She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table.
3 She has sent out her young women to call from the highest places in the town,
4 "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!" To him who lacks sense she says,
5 "Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed.
6 Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight."
- Proverbs 9:1-6
Happy Monday, Church!
This week we are covering Proverbs 9 and 10...here goes.
Chapter 9 starts like many of the other chapters, with a personification of Wisdom. As we have been going through this book, I think it's becoming clear that Proverbs is going to continue to push on wisdom. The challenge is what does that have to do with the Gospel.
I believe everywhere in the Bible points to Jesus. There's a story about Charles Spurgeon, the Father of Preaching, that goes something like this. A young preacher was preaching in England, and Spurgeon was in attendance. He went to Spurgeon after he was done preaching, and excitedly asked him what he thought of his preaching. The pastor thought he did a great job. When Spurgeon was asked by the preacher what he thought of it he was rather slow to answer, but at last he said, “If I must tell you, I did not like it at all; there was no Christ in your sermon.” “No,” answered the young man, “because I did not see that Christ was in the text.” “Oh!” said the old minister, “but do you not know that from every little town and village and tiny hamlet in England there is a road leading to London? Whenever I get hold of a text, I say to myself, ‘There is a road from here to Jesus Christ, and I mean to keep on His track till I get to Him.'” “Well,” said the young man, “but suppose you are preaching from a text that says nothing about Christ?” “Then I will go over hedge and ditch but what I will get at Him.”
PS - If you don't know Spurgeon, you are missing out...look him up.
I learned this as the "beeline theory". Wherever you're at in scripture, make a beeline for Jesus. So here goes. Let's pause on the personification of wisdom for a second and realize that this is about Jesus. You can probably just substitute the word wisdom with the word Jesus. Let's try. Im also going to change she for he to not confuse us.

Jesus is calling out to you. He's calling out to everyone. He has made a place for you. He has a feast waiting for you. Trust in Him for salvation and wisdom. His sacrifice has made it possible for you to be with God forever. It's not only possible, He wants you. He wants people to believe in Him and come to Him. He's calling out. Make a beeline for Him, church.
Pray today that you would see Christ in all that you do. Pray that the Holy Spirit would illuminate His goodness and glory everywhere you go. Pray that you would begin to rely on Him for wisdom, and salvation.
Love you church!!
