Pursuing Wisdom

8 All the words of my mouth are righteous;
there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.
9 They are all straight to him who understands,
and right to those who find knowledge.
10 Take my instruction instead of silver,
and knowledge rather than choice gold,
11 for wisdom is better than jewels,
and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.
12 "I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
and I find knowledge and discretion.
13 The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.

How valuable is wisdom? It's more valuable than winning the National League Division Series. It's even more valuable than winning the WORLD SERIES and believe me these are very valuable things! (There, I got my Dodger Win excitement out of the way!)

Wisdom is speaking directly to us here as a personification, and what she's telling me is that I should be reaching and grasping for wisdom the same way Clayton Kershaw strives for a championship ring (Sorry...  I guess I can't help it).  Clayton Kershaw's work ethic really is amazing and it makes me wonder what it would be like if I had that same passion. And in reading this passage, there's a lot of pressure on me to pursue Wisdom.

It's something God created for us and that he desires for us to have.  It's better than riches, and it truly is.  Riches without wisdom is empty, and wisdom without riches is bliss.  But what makes wisdom so valuable?  I believe it keeps you level headed, and in line with the Holy Spirit. You know what and who is important in life, and you are more able to hold things loosely that are not of high significance.

Wisdom helps us to be righteous (verse 5).  Being wise like Yoda leads to good decisions while being unwise like a young Anakin could lead you to the dark side.  In all seriousness, when I read, pray and pursue a knowledge of Him, my personal life is way more in tact at home and at work.  God wants us to pursue wisdom, it brings us closer to Him and makes us more like Him. It would be unwise of us not to.
