Hope and Promises
The Certainty of Gods Promise
“For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise. For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”
Hebrews 6:13-20 ESV
HOPE AND PROMISES
Are your hopes based on real promises? The world that we live in likes to make promises on just about everything. Most of them fail time and time again on delivering on the hope you think you have after you receive the promise.
When you read this passage you see that God has not only made some huge promises,
He has also delivered on them. Yes that includes the biggest promise of all..."the promise of Jesus as a forerunner on our behalf".
I hope you don't mind if I share a very short version of a big story in my life. If you want the long version just ask me next time you see me.
Last wee, Wednesday, I drove my mom 250 miles north to see her dying brother. 1 hr after we arrived he passed away. We didn't have any idea what we were walking into when the back door opened to their home. What I witnessed in that next hour was a beautiful example of a wife of 64 years holding fast to the promise and hope she has because of her faith in God. She wept as her husband slowly slipped out of her arms and into the waiting arms of Jesus. Her words were "go be with Jesus"
Read that passage again and again. God doesn't lie and what He promises He will and has delivered on.
So what promises are you putting your hope in?
