Suffering and Growth

Hebrews 5:8

⁸ Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered.

If our Lord learned obedience through suffering, and we follow Him, then we also must learn obedience through suffering. But that’s a choice we must make. It’s not automatic. I don’t know about you, but my natural reaction to suffering is to avoid it, and my hunch is that most people do as well. 

But have you ever thought to embrace it? To sit in it, not running from it; not distracting yourself from the pain, but confronting it and thinking about what may be learned from it? Suffering can be our ally or our enemy. The choice is ours. And if Christ is our Lord, then the choice is clear.
