Proactively Confronting Sin

Heb 3:12-13
12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. 13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

One thing my Missional Community has been doing lately is being proactive. When prayer request time comes around, it’s easy to say, “I’ll pray for you” and then wait to hear the outcome at the next time we meet. We have been trying to be intentional in our communication, our time together, and how we can actively help one another and life out life together. Recently, this has looked like: increased communication technology, a sushi and whole-loaf-of-bread girl date on the beach, going to local events together, a game night, moving an apartment, and soon our first swing dance MC field-trip. The great thing is this is normal life stuff and it’s easy and fun because we enjoy being around each other. Some of us are meeting for discipleship; intentional texting; and discussion over heavier things like heartache…sickness…life transitions…numbness… despair… and even death. I am glad to have a community that will encourage me, correct me, and be with me in my trials. Thanks Wrigley MC.

Not only should we confront sin and "butt-in" but we should be proactive and encouraging one another just as life happens. We have this community that is there for us but we often live as an island. I encourage you to ask the awkward or tough questions and live out this life with the community God has provided you. Falling away or having a hardened heart is a scary thought. I don't think any of us are immune to it. If we live an open and honest life, in community, I believe we are so much stronger against the schemes of the devil and the deceitfulness of sin.

Are you part of a Missional Community? If not, you would be wise to get on that. You have small kids at home, you say? Start one! (but talk to Pastor Charlie first) (http://www.well-church.com/missionary-communities/) If you are in an MC, how can you put your prayers in action and proactively love your MC family?
