A Little Reassurance
"The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” ( Hebrews 9:13-14 )
Sometimes I just need a little reassurance. You know... A little reminder that I'm on the right path, or I'm making the right decision, or that things will work out in the end, or that I'm not crazy... Okay, maybe that one's just me.
I feel a sentiment of that in these verses. It's as if the author of Hebrews is saying to the audience "I know things get confusing sometimes. I know the old covenant and your old ways are more comfortable. But... You are making the right decision. You are on the right path..."
For them, the old covenant system of blood sacrifice was tried and true. They trusted it because it was comfortable to them. The rituals were taken very seriously and highly respected.
Then the author makes the leap. So, if the blood of these animals, created BY God, could cover their outward sins, how much more do you think the blood of Jesus, who IS GOD, can do? This is Jesus, High Priest sitting at the right hand of the Father in heaven. Jesus, who is higher than Melchizedek, who is higher than Abraham. Jesus, who can not only cleanse you on the outside, but can cleanse your mind and heart. Jesus, the perfect, spotless, sinless lamb of God. Only He can purify you from the inside out.
We, too, have old tendencies we trust, and things we turn to in hopes that we can make ourselves better on our own. If you have found yourself relying on your own ways, or falling back into old habits, take this reminder from the author of Hebrews. "For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!”
Church- Placing your hope and faith in Jesus is the right choice. Trusting in Him alone for your purification and salvation is the right path. He works all things out for good for those who love Him.
Go forward today in confidence that the Most High Priest has made a personal sacrifice on your behalf and you are being cleansed daily, from the inside out.
