Bringing Us To Our Knees

“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith- that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
Ephesians 3:14-19

How interesting it is that this weeks topic is family.
As I am sitting here attempting to write this I am caring for my sick oldest child as the baby cries and throws a fit about something. It is so easy to get frustrated and want to throw in the towel, which is something I have thought about doing multiple times already this morning. Is it nap time yet…?
So often we get wrapped up in the messiness that can come with family, especially with children. It is easy to become overwhelmed and to put your SELF-goggles on, caring about only your family, how you as the parent can get everyone through the day alive with little to no injuries. You strap on your boots, put your head down and march forward.
But guess what!? We don’t have to do that!! In the scripture it says “From whom EVERY FAMILY in heaven and earth is named…” God has claimed us! He has claimed our family. We do not fight through the day alone because we have been claimed as HIS. HE is the one who carried the weight of the cross for us and continues to do so everyday. No, our job is to show His loveTo be “rooted and grounded in love” that our fruit may show and that we may show others the dimensions of Gods love. As Paul says in the beginning “for this reason I bow my knees before the Father.” Who better to show love to than the people we love the most!?
Yes this is way easier said than done, just writing this has been a complete slap in the face for me. Family is messy, it is hard, and the days can be long but it is so beautifulbecause it has been Gods design since the very beginningwhen he first called Abraham. Family is a simple reminderof what God has sacrificed for us. His Son. It brings us to our knees in reverent awe of the immense love he pours out to us on a daily basis even though we are less than deserving.
This week I would encourage you to allow yourself to be brought to your knees before your King. Pray His perfect prayer. Surrender yourself to Him and go forward remembering the dimensions of His love for all of us are immeasurable.
