Family Values

Ephesians 4:15-16

"Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way, into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love."

The Dove soap commercials ... aren't they great?! (Church reference). Our kids are direct sponges of us as parents. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old at home that, before each meal, decide they are going to pray. The first time this happened, Elise and I looked at each other and said, "Who taught them that?!" We never intentionally taught them this . . . this is just what they saw us doing and knew that it was probably the right thing to do. We are called to be leaders in our family to build our children up in the love that Christ has given us. I read the notes in my Bible and it says that we are not to speak this truth forcefully to those around us but to make sure that we are always loving when delivering the truth of Christ. This goes a long way with just how we act around others. We need to build each other up by the love that we share. People should wonder why you are different, why you are kind and why you bother to interest yourself in their life. We need to continually reflect God's love off of us and onto those surrounding us at work, school, church, at the park, through outreach, etc.

At home we are a family unit and need to reflect God's love onto one another to build each other up. This analogy cannot stop within our home walls. We need to take this to our church, our MC and to our local communities to ensure we are building up the kingdom through the love and truth of Jesus. How do we do this? Isn't it scary out there? Out of our comfort zone? What will people think when we start talking to them about Jesus? This is where we need to rely on our family as a body that works together as we will always need help and always need a rally to get going and always need someone to pick us back up when we fall over from exhaustion.

Pray this week that we can not only be bold on our own out there, but seek refuge in the family that God has blessed you with when you need comfort.

Blessings to you all this week.

Tim
