Control

Control...that's a huge word that has lots of implications. Most people live their daily lives controlled by a list of responsibilities like jobs, school, and kids. Some of us might make very detailed lists of the things that we want to control. Most of these are things you probably can control with your choices. But what about the things you can't? Like a
when you get in a car? Can you control how other people drive? Nope! How about boarding a plane? Can you control how the pilot is going to do flying the plane? Nope. So you get in your car and go, trusting and praying that other people are in control of their cars...or you buckle your seatbelt on the plane, trusting and praying that the pilot will do his job the way he was trained.

So are we living our lives in control or out of control??? Seems like we have one foot in and one foot out when it comes to control. That seems crazy doesn't it. Let's complicate this even more, or maybe it will simplify it?
Where does God fit in with the self imposed control measures in your life? Are you willing to let go of the control you think you want in your life? What!??? That sounds out of control right?

There are multiple stories in the Bible of people being asked give up control and trust God. How about Abraham being asked to sacrifice his son Isaac?That's totally out of control and completely trusting God. Or maybe when Simon and Andrew were asked to drop their nets, follow some guy named Jesus who said they could become "fishers of men". So they basically quit there jobs, and did it...that's seems like a pretty out of control decision, right?

I don't know about you but for me giving up control is not easy, but I have learned and continue to learn that if I'm willing to trust God completely, He will provide...every time.

There's an old song I remember singing when I was a kid called "Trust and Obey". As you read the lyrics, think about your life...are you willing to let go and live a life out of control? The only way it works is if you trust and obey God!

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!

While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.
But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
