Gray Area

21 My son, do not lose sight of these- keep sound wisdom and discretion,
22 and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.
23 Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble.
24 If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes,
26 for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.
- Proverbs 3:21-26

There are a few things in this world that are absolute...Death, Time, Space, etc. You can always count on those things being the same. And when things work in the absolutes, it's really easy to make the good wise decisions. For instance, is it wise and showing good discretion to pay my rent? Yes. You don't have to be a genius to figure that one out. Not too much gray area on that example.

Most decisions in our life are not quite that simple, though. They are a lot less black and white...gray area. Should I eat this, or that? Do I watch this, or that? Do I associate with this person, or not? And the list goes on and on. How could we possibly make any decisions?! What if we mess it up?!!

That's where the gospel comes in. The Gospel would say that when you're faith is in Jesus, and you are trusting Him to lead you, then you can live your life in freedom. Life without worry. See when we believe in Jesus and seek His wisdom in our lives, even if we make the wrong choice, we can sleep easy. It's not that we are always right, but that we are always loved.

So, seek wisdom...Jesus...He is your confidence. That is freedom to walk not in fear, but in courage. If we are making every decision worried about the outcome, we won't have time to make anymore decisions because we will only have time to worry!

The fact that we operate in the gray so often is evidence that Jesus gives us grace. Do we make bad decisions? Sure. Does He love us any less? No chance.

Church, pray that God would free you from being perfect. Pray that He would remind you of His grace and perfection when you are having to make a tough decision. Ask Him for help in the making the right decision, but remember that even if you make a wrong one, He loves you no less.

Jesus loves you!
